How much does an ecommerce website cost in Bangladesh? The honest breakdown

Freelancer site, WooCommerce, Shopify or a local platform — what each really costs in a year once hosting, domain, gateway and upkeep are counted.

By the Eazifiy teamPublished 8 min read

"How much for an ecommerce website?" gets answers from a few thousand taka to a few lakh, and every one of them is honest — they are just answering different questions. A quotation for building a site is not the cost of running one, and the cheapest first month is often the most expensive first year.

This post breaks the cost down by what you are actually paying for, across the four realistic routes for a Bangladeshi seller. We do not quote freelancer rates or hosting prices, because they vary wildly and go stale; we tell you which line items exist on each route so you can price them yourself in an afternoon. The only figures here are Eazifiy's own.

The four routes

  1. A freelancer or agency builds a custom site — code written for you, hosted wherever they set up.
  2. WordPress + WooCommerce — free software, on hosting you rent, extended with plugins.
  3. Shopify — a global hosted platform, billed in US dollars, with Bangladesh-specific gaps filled by apps.
  4. A Bangladesh-built platform like Eazifiy — hosted, subscription-priced in taka, with bKash, cash on delivery and courier already inside.

The cost lines below apply to all four, but they land in very different places.

Cost line 1: Building the store

Custom build. This is the big up-front number: a one-time fee for design and development, quoted per project. What it buys varies enormously — sometimes a WordPress theme with your logo on it, sometimes real custom software. Ask what happens when you need a change after delivery; that is usually billed again.

WooCommerce. The software is free. Setting it up is not: someone has to install WordPress, choose and configure a theme, add WooCommerce, and get it looking like a store. Either you learn it or you pay a freelancer for the setup, which is a smaller version of the custom-build fee.

Shopify. No build fee for the basics — pick a theme, add products. Themes are free or paid (paid ones are one-time, in dollars). Customisation beyond the theme settings needs a Shopify developer.

Eazifiy. No build fee. The storefront, admin panel, checkout and theme are part of the subscription; you add products and your logo. Sign-up to a live store is the same day.

Cost line 2: Hosting

Custom build and WooCommerce. You rent hosting — shared, VPS or cloud — billed monthly or yearly. Cheap shared hosting is where most WooCommerce stores start and where most of them become slow. When traffic grows during a campaign, so does the hosting bill, and someone has to manage backups, updates and the server itself.

Shopify and Eazifiy. Hosting is included in the subscription. There is no server to manage, no backup to schedule and no separate bill when traffic spikes.

Cost line 3: Domain

A .com domain is a yearly cost on every route, bought from a registrar. A .com.bd domain is bought through BTCL and has its own process. Whichever you choose, the price is per year and it is the same regardless of which platform your store runs on.

On Eazifiy you can start without a domain on a free yourname.eazifiy.com address and connect your own on the Premium plan. We cover the choice in custom domains for your online store.

Cost line 4: Payment gateway

This is the line most quotations leave out.

Custom build. Integrating bKash directly, or an aggregator like SSLCommerz, is developer work — a separate fee, plus sandbox testing, plus maintenance when the API changes.

WooCommerce. A bKash or aggregator plugin, often with a licence fee, plus the merchant account with bKash or the aggregator. The plugin must be kept updated with WordPress and WooCommerce.

Shopify. Shopify Payments is not available in Bangladesh, so you add a third-party gateway app. Shopify also charges a transaction fee on orders processed through third-party gateways on most plans — check the current terms.

Eazifiy. bKash and cash on delivery are built into checkout on every plan. You connect your own bKash merchant account; there is no plugin, no integration fee and no platform transaction fee — the bKash charge is between you and bKash. Details on the bKash payment page.

In every case you will need a bKash merchant account, and bKash's own per-transaction charge applies. That is not a platform cost; it is a bKash cost.

Cost line 5: Courier integration

Booking parcels one at a time in a courier app costs nothing but time. Connecting your store to the courier — so orders are booked and statuses sync — is:

  • Custom build: a developer project per courier.
  • WooCommerce: a plugin per courier, where one exists.
  • Shopify: an app per courier, where one exists.
  • Eazifiy: included. Pathao, Steadfast, RedX, Paperfly, eCourier and CarryBee are built in; you paste your API credentials.

The courier's own delivery charges apply on every route, obviously.

Cost line 6: Plugins, apps and features

This is the line that grows.

A WooCommerce store that needs SMS notifications, an abandoned-cart tool, a fraud check, a Facebook pixel, product reviews, coupons and a landing page builder ends up with a plugin for each — some free, many with yearly licences, all needing updates. A Shopify store does the same with apps, most billed monthly in dollars.

On Eazifiy those are features of the plan, not add-ons. Which features are on which plan is on the pricing page — Starter covers the essentials; Lite adds things like fraud check, SMS campaigns, abandoned-order recovery and marketing pixels; Premium adds custom domain, fraud review queue, IP blocklist, developer API and removes the "Powered by Eazifiy" footer link.

Cost line 7: Maintenance and the developer you keep on call

Custom build. Every change is a developer conversation. Security updates, a broken checkout after a browser update, a new feature — billed per job or on a retainer.

WooCommerce. WordPress, WooCommerce, the theme and every plugin all release updates, and they occasionally break each other. Either you keep them updated and fix what breaks, or you pay someone to.

Shopify and Eazifiy. Updates are the platform's problem. Your cost is the subscription.

Cost line 8: Currency and payment for the platform itself

A detail that matters in Bangladesh: Shopify bills in US dollars to an international card, and most Shopify apps do too. If you do not have a dual-currency card, that is a practical problem before it is a cost. Eazifiy is billed in taka and can be paid with bKash.

Putting it together: a year, not a month

Price your route over twelve months, not the first invoice:

Custom build WooCommerce Shopify Eazifiy
Build fee One-time, quoted Setup (DIY or freelancer) None (theme optional) None
Hosting Separate, monthly/yearly Separate, monthly/yearly Included Included
Domain Yearly Yearly Yearly Yearly (optional; free subdomain)
bKash / COD checkout Developer fee Plugin (+ licence) Third-party app + transaction fee Included
Courier integration Developer fee per courier Plugin per courier App per courier Included (6 couriers)
SMS, fraud check, pixels, etc. Build each Plugin each App each (USD) In plan
Maintenance Per job / retainer You or a freelancer Platform Platform
Billed in BDT BDT (hosting often USD) USD BDT, bKash accepted

The custom build has the largest first number and the most unpredictable later ones. WooCommerce has the smallest first number and the most line items. Shopify is predictable but in dollars and with gaps for Bangladesh. A local platform folds most lines into one subscription.

What Eazifiy actually costs

These are the only prices in this post, because they are the only ones we control:

  • Starter — ৳599 a month
  • Lite — ৳999 a month
  • Premium — ৳1,890 a month
  • First 2 months on any plan — ৳200 a month, then the regular price of the plan you chose

Hosting, the storefront, the admin panel, bKash and cash-on-delivery checkout, courier integration and updates are inside those numbers. What is not inside them, on any route: your domain (if you want one), bKash's own transaction charge, the courier's delivery charges, and your ad spend. See the pricing page for the feature list per plan.

Frequently asked questions

Is a custom website ever the right choice? Yes — when you need something no platform offers, have a developer relationship you trust, and can absorb ongoing costs. For a store that sells products with bKash, COD and a courier, that is rarely the case.

Is WooCommerce cheaper than a platform? In the first month, usually. Over a year, once hosting, plugin licences and the time or money spent on maintenance are counted, it often is not. We go through the trade-offs in Eazifiy vs WooCommerce.

Why not Shopify? It is a good product, priced and built for markets where Shopify Payments works. In Bangladesh you pay in dollars, add a third-party gateway for bKash, and pay a transaction fee for the privilege. See Shopify in Bangladesh and Eazifiy vs Shopify.

Are there hidden charges on Eazifiy? No platform transaction fee, no setup fee, no charge for connecting bKash or a courier. The plan price is the price. Your domain, bKash charges and courier charges are paid to those providers, not to us.

Can I start without paying for a domain? Yes. Every store starts on a free yourname.eazifiy.com address; connect your own domain later on the Premium plan.
