Adding Nagad, Rocket and card payments to your website in Bangladesh

Which payment methods Bangladeshi shoppers use, what it takes to accept Nagad, Rocket and cards, and when bKash plus cash on delivery is enough.

By the Eazifiy teamPublished 7 min read

Once a store has cash on delivery and bKash working, the next question from customers — and from the owner — is usually "what about Nagad?" and, a little later, "can I pay by card?" Both are reasonable to want. Neither is as simple as bKash to add, and for many stores neither is worth adding on day one.

This guide explains what each method involves, the practical routes to offering them, and how to decide from your own orders whether you need them yet. As with every payment article on this blog, we do not quote fees or settlement periods — each provider publishes its own and changes them; we tell you where to look.

What Bangladeshi shoppers actually pay with

Before adding anything, look at what your customers do. For most consumer stores in Bangladesh the pattern is consistent: cash on delivery is the majority of orders, bKash is the largest online method by a wide margin, and Nagad, Rocket and cards together are a small share. Business customers and higher-ticket purchases shift that mix toward bank transfer and cards.

Two consequences follow. First, a store that only offers COD and bKash is not turning away most of its market. Second, whether to add more methods is a question your own order data can answer — count how often customers ask for Nagad or a card, not how often you imagine they might.

Nagad

Nagad is the second-largest mobile wallet in the country and the one customers ask for most after bKash. Like bKash it has a merchant programme and a payment gateway product for websites.

What it takes. A Nagad merchant account with business documents (a trade licence is the usual anchor — see trade licence and registration for an online business), and then gateway access with API credentials for your website. Direct website integration is supported by fewer store platforms and plugins than bKash's, so check what your store software offers before applying.

The practical route for most stores. Through an aggregator gateway, where Nagad is one of several methods in a single integration — see the next section.

What to look up. Nagad's merchant fee schedule and settlement terms, and the current documents list on Nagad's merchant page.

Rocket

Rocket is Dutch-Bangla Bank's mobile banking service. It has a loyal base — particularly among customers who receive salaries or remittances through it — and merchant acceptance, but direct website integration is rarer still than Nagad's.

What it takes. A Rocket merchant arrangement through the bank, and for a website, in practice, an aggregator that supports Rocket as a method.

The practical route. Almost always via an aggregator.

Visa, Mastercard and other cards

Card payments are different in kind. A mobile wallet is one company you sign up with; card acceptance means connecting to the card networks and banks through an acquiring bank, with the security obligations that come with handling card data. No small merchant does this directly.

What it takes. A payment gateway — a company licensed to process card payments — which gives you a hosted payment page where the customer enters their card details. The card data never touches your website, which is what keeps you out of the compliance burden. In Bangladesh that means an aggregator such as SSLCommerz or AamarPay, both of which support local and international cards.

When cards matter. Higher-priced items where customers want EMI (instalment) options offered by their bank through the gateway; customers abroad buying for family in Bangladesh; business purchases. For a store selling everyday consumer goods at typical price points, card demand is usually small.

What to look up. The gateway's card fee (typically different from wallet fees), whether EMI is available and on which banks, and settlement timing.

Offering all of them through one connection

If you want Nagad, Rocket and cards, the efficient path is a single aggregator gateway account. One contract and one integration gives your checkout every method the aggregator supports — bKash, Nagad, Rocket, Upay, cards, internet banking — and settles them all to your bank account. We compare the leading options in SSLCommerz vs AamarPay vs direct bKash.

The trade-off is the middleman: an aggregator's fee on each method, and settlement to your bank on its cycle rather than instantly into your own wallet. Many stores therefore run a hybrid — bKash directly, because it is the bulk of online payments and lands in their own merchant account immediately, and an aggregator for everything else.

Doing this on Eazifiy

On Eazifiy, the payment methods a customer sees at checkout are configured under Settings → Payment Methods:

  • Cash on delivery and bKash are built in. bKash connects with your own gateway credentials and pays into your merchant account directly, with advance payment on COD, a bKash-only extra discount and delivery-fee-in-advance available — see the bKash payment page and how to open a bKash merchant account.
  • Card, Nagad and Rocket are offered through SSLCommerz. Connect your SSLCommerz merchant account in the same settings screen, and the three methods become available at checkout, taken on SSLCommerz's hosted payment page and settled by SSLCommerz to your bank.
  • Until SSLCommerz is connected, those three methods are not shown to customers even if you have switched them on in the checkout layout — so a store that has not finished onboarding never displays a payment option that cannot complete.
  • You choose which methods are enabled and in what order they appear, and can add a short description under each (for example, "Pay in full to get 5% off").

Eazifiy adds no fee of its own to any payment method and never holds your money; the gateway's charges are between you and the gateway.

When bKash plus COD is genuinely enough

It is tempting to add every method "just in case". Consider not doing so if:

  • Your orders are under a typical consumer price point and your customers are individuals — the card share will be very small.
  • You are new. Every extra method is another account to open, another settlement to reconcile and another thing to explain to your team. Get COD confirmation, bKash and courier working smoothly first.
  • Nobody is asking. Keep a simple tally of payment-method requests in your support messages for a month. If Nagad comes up daily, add it. If cards come up twice, you have your answer.

Add methods when they will pay for their own overhead, and prefer one aggregator connection over three separate ones.

Frequently asked questions

Can I add Nagad directly without an aggregator? Nagad has a gateway product, but you need a store platform or developer that supports it. For most stores the aggregator route is faster and gives you Rocket and cards at the same time.

Do I need separate trade licences or bank accounts for each method? No. One business identity — trade licence, owner NID, bank account — serves all applications. Use the same business name and spelling everywhere.

Is it safe to accept cards on my website? Yes, provided the card details are entered on the gateway's hosted page, not yours. That is how SSLCommerz and similar gateways work, and how Eazifiy integrates them.

Will offering more payment methods increase my sales? Only if customers were leaving because their method was missing. For most Bangladeshi consumer stores the bigger lever is a smooth COD flow with advance payment to cut fake orders — see reducing fake orders and COD returns.

What about Upay and other wallets? Most aggregators include them. Whether to enable them at checkout follows the same rule: add them when customers ask.
